Sagirah Shahid

Sagirah Shahid (She/Her) is an award-winning African American Muslim poet from Minneapolis. Her prize-winning debut poetry collection is forthcoming from Lightscatter Press in the spring of 2027. A member of the Minnesota Green Party’s Muslim Caucus, Sagirah is in unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine, Sudan, and communities globally and domestically who are impacted by genocides, poverty, and endless wars. She also believes that reparations for the Black descendants of the formerly enslaved, are possible within our lifetimes. Sagirah joined the Community Equity Program to learn how to better advocate for human rights centered legislation, to learn how to repeal state laws that violate constitutional rights, and to advance the ongoing fight for reparations.
