Showing Up Wilder

2025 Annual Report

A Letter From Wilder’s President & CEO

At Wilder, showing up for community is at the heart of who we are. This year’s theme, Showing Up Wilder, reflects our organization’s character and how we meet each moment with compassion, courage, and commitment.

In times of change and uncertainty, our communities continue to show strength and resilience. Wilder remains a steady presence, working alongside families in homes, classrooms, clinics, and neighborhoods to build stability, belonging, and hope.

Showing Up Wilder is more than being present. It means listening deeply, standing alongside partners, and working together to remove barriers and create lasting solutions. It is how we honor the trust our community places in us and how we carry our mission forward: improving lives today and for generations to come through a whole-family approach to services, advocacy, and research. Thank you for showing up with Wilder and helping shape a brighter, more equitable future.

Armando Camacho, Wilder President & CEO

Making a Difference Together

Equipping the Voices Shaping Minnesota Policy

Ten years ago, Wilder’s Community Equity Program (CEP) began with a simple but urgent observation: Minnesota’s legislative spaces did not reflect the communities they served. The challenge was clear—bring historically marginalized community members to the table to advocate for change.

Since then, nearly 200 alumni have completed CEP’s nine-month leadership program. Led by a diverse team, the program provides immersive training in legislative skills, coalition-building, and public policy. Participants learn how government works while recognizing the immense power of their lived experiences. Together, they build networks, sharpen advocacy skills, and imagine a Capitol that truly represents the diversity of Minnesota.

Graduates of CEP have gone on to become public officials, shape state laws, and strengthen their communities through leadership and advocacy. Others apply their learning locally, bringing the same energy and vision to their neighborhoods and workplaces. No matter the path, alumni carry forward one truth: they are changemakers capable of transforming systems for future generations.

In October 2024, CEP launched its 10th, and largest cohort yet. As these leaders step forward, Wilder keeps showing up alongside them—breaking down barriers, opening doors, and proving that when historically excluded voices lead, communities thrive. Looking ahead, the next cohorts will continue this work, building on a decade of impact and ensuring that CEP’s mission of equity, representation, and bold leadership carries forward for the next ten years and beyond.

Investing in the Next Generation

When Rick Chase joined the Wilder Foundation in 1983 for what was supposed to be a one-year research project, he didn’t know it would become a lifelong example of what it means to show up Wilder. His early work studying single-parent families revealed a powerful truth: the challenges children face often begin long before kindergarten. Of the many children who were behind by third grade— it was not because of a single event, but because early opportunities for early learning and development weren’t there.

That realization shaped Rick’s career and Wilder’s commitment to showing up early and fully for families. Through research and direct service, he authored research that connected education, health, and family stability—proving that when we invest in young children, we strengthen entire communities.

Rick’s father-in-law, Sherm Devitt, a businessman and philanthropist, was inspired by Rick’s findings. He saw that investing early wasn’t just the right thing to do—it was the smart thing to do. Sherm became a generous supporter of Wilder’s Child Development Center, helping ensure children and families could continue receiving quality care even in times of financial uncertainty.

Before his passing, Sherm made a legacy gift to Wilder, supporting scholarships and facility improvements at the Child Development Center that continue to change lives today. For Rick, this investment embodies the idea that being present for families, not just once, but consistently over time, can create lasting change that carries forward for years and generations to come.

Sharing Place-Based Data

Minnesota Compass, a Wilder Research project, held it’s annual meeting, where self-professed data nerds from around Minnesota came together to learn more and talk about the trends and issues facing Minnesotans throughout the state. This year’s theme was “Place Matters” and focused on how where we live and work can impact our quality of life…

Increasing Access to Nutritious Meals

From Monday to Friday, you can find Wilder’s Meals on Wheels office busy with volunteers coming together for a common cause: increasing access to nutritious meals for the Saint Paul community. In partnership with Metro Meals on Wheels, Wilder provides affordable, nutritious hot or frozen meals on weekdays to adults, older adults, and seniors living in Midway, Frogtown, and the surrounding neighborhoods of Saint Paul…

Showing Up, Giving Back

For Blaze Credit Union, community investment is more than a value—it’s central to how they operate. Guided by their two-word mission, Better Lives, and a core action, Give Back, Blaze seeks meaningful ways to support the communities where their members live and work. “We talk about time, talent, and treasures,” says Dan Stoltz, CEO of Blaze. “Everyone can give something.”

That commitment is exemplified in their support of Wilder’s statewide Minnesota Homeless Study. By investing in the study, Blaze helped fill a critical gap in understanding homelessness, providing data that informs policy and strengthens services across the state. It was a chance to come alongside Wilder and directly support Minnesotans experiencing homelessness, helping strengthen the community through action and insight.

Blaze’s approach extends beyond financial support. Employees participate in volunteer days, company-wide giving initiatives, and hands-on projects alongside Wilder, from packing snack kits to engaging with programs that meet local needs. Wilder is grateful to partner with organizations like Blaze, where their giving philosophy is woven into their daily operations and ensures that they show up for the community in ways that are broad, consistent and deeply felt.

Through Wilder, Blaze demonstrates a shared belief: stronger communities are built by organizations that lead with compassion, purpose, and alignment. For Blaze, showing up isn’t an occasional effort—it’s how they live their values, foster connections, and create meaningful, lasting impact in Minnesota.

Wilder really cares about my child and their individual needs and they do what they can to help my child.

-School-Based Mental Health Parent

Happy to be here participating in the program [by] connecting with community resources, and learning to cope with depression, anxiety, and worries.

-Center for Social Healing Participant

They genuinely listen and stay aware of what’s going on with me. They are willing to help me with the little and the big things.

-Adult Rehabilitation Service Patient

They talk to me, and if I don’t know or understand something, they help me figure it out.

-Wilder Client

The difference with this child care center than others this one is really in tune with my child; they help my child with his needs and really understands where the child is coming from.

-Child Development Center Parent

I love wilder. They have served my family for many years and have a lot of programs and services for us.

-Children’s Therapeutic Services and Support Parent

The group therapy, personal therapy, and art therapy are so patient with my child, and my child has really opened up.

-Wilder Day Treatment Participant

They have done so much for me, helping with financials and being patient. I love my provider.

-Mental Health Patient

Saint Paul Promise’s People’s Fellowship impacted my life by making me more confident, giving me more drive to get out of the situation I was in at the time.

-Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood Participant

I’m leaving the African American Babies Coalition and Project’s birthing summit renewed, recharged, and recommitted to continuing this work, building safe and affirming spaces for our birthing people and families.

-Public Health Leader

It’s the food more than anything that matters. But certainly, the personal contact brings a little light into their lives. This is an important part of my life.

-Wilder Meals on Wheels Volunteer

I wish everybody could witness this study being conducted. It’s really something to have people sit across from people who are experiencing homelessness and really speack to them and really learn their story.

-Wilder Homeless Study Volunteer

With [my case manager], I can do anything. She means a lot to me. She’s not only there for the paperwork, but she also listens to me.

-Supportive Housing Client
