Michelle leads the Community Equity Program (CEP), a 7-month leadership program for people to learn the legislative policy-making process, build community with one another, and re-imagine new systems and ways of being. She is a first-generation Liberian immigrant who grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis. Michelle earned her B.S. in early childhood education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Masters of Public Policy from Vanderbilt University. Michelle’s experience in the Minnesota education system and her background in education policy drives her advocacy work. Prior to Wilder, Michelle worked as a policy manager at a Minnesota education advocacy nonprofit. She advocated for a rigorous and engaging education for students of color at the Minnesota legislature and through grassroots efforts. She also brings federal and state-level government relations experience. She is passionate about making spaces accessible, equitable, and inviting for all people.
