Adrián Rafael Magaña is a dedicated social-justice advocate and community organizer from Minneapolis, MN. He is a second generation Minnesotan with proud roots in México, Cuba, and Morocco. Adrián is particularly passionate about representation, education, and environmental justice. He spent four years as a teacher, educating a variety of age groups and subjects but had a particular passion for teaching history. Adrián has ten years of community organizing experience, with a particular focus on education, healthcare, and environmental inclusion and conservation policy.
He comes to Wilder as a Public Policy and Community Engagement Director after serving as the Legislative & Policy Director for the Minnesota Council on Latino Affairs (MCLA) in the areas of health and education. During his time with the MCLA, Adrián worked in partnership with the Coalition to Increase Teachers of Color and others to pass legislation that included indexed ELL funding, historic increases in Per-Pupil Spending, and the creation of robust programming to improve education outcomes for BIPOC students. Adrián also created the Unaccompanied Children Resource Portal of Minnesota (UCRPM), the only centralized tool of its kind which connects UC’s with critical and lifesaving resources in Minnesota. When Adrián is not working, he enjoys whitewater kayaking, camping, playing fetch with his dog, and convincing his loved ones to get outdoors.
