Minnesota is home to more than 400,000 immigrants and refugees. The majority live in the Twin Cities. Speaking for Ourselves: A Study with Immigrant and Refugee Communities in the Twin Cities looks at the experiences of Hmong, Karen, Latino, Liberian, and Somali immigrants and refugees living in Hennepin and Ramsey counties. This report provides an overview of each population’s demographics and family characteristics.
The Speaking for Ourselves survey asked immigrants and refugees living in the Twin Cities about their perceptions and experiences related to education, transportation, housing, public health, safety, employment, finances, community and social engagement, and the immigrant experience. This study builds on a previous study conducted by Wilder Research in 2000.
