In 2022, the Minnesota State Art Board partnered with Wilder Research to conduct a representative survey of Minnesota residents about arts and creative experiences. The survey asked respondents about the value they see in arts and creative experiences, the ways in which they participate in and support arts and creative experiences, and the barriers they face to participating in arts and creative experiences. This report presents key findings from the survey.

The Arts Board worked with Wilder Research on public input strategies to gather information that will help them determine which grant programs to offer in the future. Efforts included 15 listening sessions with residents from across Minnesota. Residents were asked about barriers to participating in arts and culture activities.

The Arts Board worked with Wilder Research on public input strategies to gather information that will help them determine which grant programs to offer in the future. Efforts included a survey of previous Arts Board grantees and applicants. The survey addressed changes in creative work due to COVID-19, arts and culture offerings desired by their communities, and barriers and future plans for creative work.

Wilder Research assisted the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB) in assessing the reliability of its review criteria and the effects of its equity funding strategies.

To assist the Minnesota State Arts Board in implementing an equity-based approach for the allocation of funding to under-resourced groups, Wilder Research conducted a literature review of equity-based funding allocation approaches used by public entities, with an emphasis on public arts funding.
