Our Children: Our Future

A research report on Minnesota children who don't live at home
September 2003: Greg Owen, Ellen Shelton, Michelle Gerrard, Nicole Martin

Each year, an estimated 30,000 Minnesota children are away from home for their own protection or because of delinquency, or are homeless on their own. For the first time, this report takes a combined look at these three groups, describing what we know about them and how "the system" works. The report also presents evidence about the effectiveness of different living situations and services for children and families in crisis, describes problems and needs identified by professionals around the state, and suggests seven critical issues for community discussion.
