About the Speakers:

Michael Stegman is the MacArthur Foundation’s lead observer of domestic policy issues. During his tenure as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research at HUD, he was named one of Washington’s 100 most influential decision makers by the National Journal. He holds a Ph.D. in city planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
Susan Urahn has developed new methodologies to facilitate Pew’s efforts to practice results-oriented philanthropy. She now manages a division that has increasing impact on state policies over a broad range of subjects. A one-time member of the Research Department of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Susan holds a doctorate in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota.
Steve Aos has directed the research of the Washington State Institute for Public Policy since 1995 and is in increasing demand nationally for analysis of a wide range of public policy issues.
John Roman is an economist with acknowledged expertise in the areas of criminal justice, courts and policing, and substance abuse. He is co-author of Juvenile Drug Courts and Teen Substance Abuse published by the Urban Institute. He holds a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
Christopher King has conducted extensive research on performance measurement and management for education and training programs since the 1970s and has developed systemic performance measures, including return-on-investment (ROI) measures, with the Workforce Leadership of Texas, the National Governors Association, and other university colleagues. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University.
