Cheryl Holm-Hansen

Cheryl manages a research unit that provides research consultation to a wide range of human services programs. She also designs program evaluations and other applied research projects, oversees the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, presents evaluation results to a variety of stakeholder groups, and assists stakeholders in using evaluation results to guide service and system improvements.

Cheryl's research interests include child and adolescent mental health, youth violence and delinquency, family violence, and substance use prevention. In addition to providing evaluation and research training to community groups, she teaches college courses in psychology and human services.

Cheryl has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology and an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Ohio State University, and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.


Recent projects

  • An evaluation of the Foundations for Success initiative, a Knight Foundation-funded initiative designed to promote the accessibility and quality of mental health services for children from birth to age 5
  • Lead evaluator for the Children Succeed Initiative, a six-county children's mental health system of care funded by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
  • Coordination of a statewide project to build the capacity of state-funded alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention programs
  • Coordination of a statewide evaluation of Minnesota’s Children’s Trust Fund services
  • Consultation and evaluation services for the Hennepin County Children’s Mental Health Collaborative
  • Publication of a series of reports regarding Minnesota's current services for crime victims for the Minnesota Office of Justice Programs
  • A nine-year evaluation of the Cargill Scholars program, which provides intensive support to academically at-risk youth
  • Evaluation of the Minneapolis Foundation's Destination 2010 initiative, which provides academic support and scholarships to at-risk youth in Minneapolis and Saint Paul
