Achievement Plus continues to produce considerable academic results. Students at the Achievement Plus schools that serve as pilot sites for the program have shown significant academic improvement on both statewide and national tests, particularly in the areas of reading, math, and writing skills.
Students involved in the Achievement Plus extended day programs tend to have even higher rates of academic improvement.
Recent Achievement Plus accomplishments include:
- John A. Johnson received the Richard Riley Award for Excellence in 2004 from the KnowledgeWorks Foundation as the best example nation-wide of a school as the center of its community
- Dayton’s Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary was selected in 2005 as an America’s Choice demonstration school for the region covering West Virginia to South Dakota; one of only twelve such sites chosen throughout the country
- Saint Paul Public Schools was named the state winner of the National Civic Star in 2005 for the development of the Achievement Plus initiative, presented by the American Association of School Administrators and Sodexho School Services
- John A. Johnson Achievement Plus Elementary was featured in a video sponsored by the KnowledgeWorks Foundation and the American Architectural Foundation as an outstanding example of a community school; the video premiered at the 2005 annual conference of the National School Boards Association
- All three Achievement Plus schools served as demonstration sites for the Saint Paul Public Schools District In January, 2006, John A. Johnson received the Award for Excellence in Education from Senator Mark Dayton, presented to only 21 schools in Minnesota
- The Achievement Plus initiative received additional grant funding in 2005 to extend the concept into a junior high school.
