Mao Thao


Research Associate 
mat@wilder.org

Mao assists with designing, organizing, and conducting research projects.  She also helps prepare research reports and presentations. Her research interests include immigration, race and ethnicity, and youth development.

Mao received a B.S. in sociology and B.A. in communication studies from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.  She previously worked as a research assistant for the Youth Development Study and the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota. 

Recent projects

  • Preparation of a report on services for victims of general crime in Minnesota
  • Literature review of the mental health needs of recent immigrants and refugees
  • Preparation of student case studies and a report on school climate for the Destination 2010 college initiative, sponsored by the Minneapolis Foundation
  • An evaluation of client satisfaction for Wilder residential programs
  • Preparation of multiple reports evaluating children's mental health services for Foundations for Success
  • Data cleaning for the Northern Star Boy Scouts of America
