Successful Aging

Did you know?

  • 25 percent or one out of every four households in the United States is involved in care giving for a relative or friend.
  • Baby boomers (the 76 million people born between 1946 and 1964) will post the single greatest challenge to the health and Social Security system that the United States has ever faced.
  • The rate of disability among older adults is declining. However, the older adult population is growing so rapidly that the actual number of people with physical and mental disabilities is growing.
  • As our population ages and longevity increases more and more people will be impacted by dementia.
  • The proportion of racial and ethnic minority older adults is growing, and they are significantly more likely to live in poverty than whites.
  • In the near future, nearly half of all persons 65 and older will live alone.
