-
Each year, 30,000 Minnesota children are placed in foster care, treatment, correctional facilities, or a shelter.
-
An estimated 5,500 children and youth in Ramsey County have difficulty at home, at school and in the community due to severe or long-term problems with mental health, substance abuse or delinquency.
-
Without help, these troubled youth often become troubled adults. Many will drop out of school and serve time in a corrections facility.
-
These issues often do not have any single cause, but are due to a combination of factors such as genetics, early exposure to violence, neglect or abuse, family difficulties, troubled peer relationships and negative school experiences.
-
With early identification and intervention, and using proven practices, most children can be helped.
-
Many troubled children do not receive adequate help, or receive it late when it much more difficult to change things.
