Monica's work in program evaluation and research includes study design, implementation, and writing reports.  Her research work has encompassed a range of topics, including children’s mental health, immigrant mental health, domestic violence, and substance use.  She also has a background and special interest in parent education and has been involved in the development, implementation, and evaluation of parent education programs and curricula.  

Prior to joining Wilder in 2005, Monica coordinated and assisted in the development of a parent education program at the University of Connecticut, facilitated parent education classes, and conducted research examining child development in cross-cultural contexts.

Monica has a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Connecticut, an M.A. in Psychology from Wake Forest University, and a B.A. in Psychology and English from St. Olaf College.

Recent projects

• A study to examine the impact of MFIP Family Connections, a pilot program being implemented in eight Minnesota counties which connects MFIP recipients with community based organizations
• Preparation of a report on services for victims of child abuse for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety
• Evaluation of a Chrysalis program that serves women who are pregnant, and their children, through an expanded outpatient chemical dependency treatment program
• An ongoing evaluation of Cornerstone, which provides housing services for victims of domestic violence
• Foundations for Success, an evaluation of children's mental health services
• Destination 2010, a multi-year initiative of the Minneapolis Foundation designed to provide support to academically at-risk youth and their families
