Housing development, research and innovation

Wilder is an award-winning affordable housing developer, development consultant and innovator. We have developed or co-developed 2,045 affordable housing units in the Saint Paul, Minnesota, area, rehabilitated 700 units, and currently own and/or manage 1,200 units.

Along with our many community partners, we believe that the current system for addressing the affordable housing crisis is not adequate to meet growing needs. We are committing to not only maintaining and increasing the number of affordable housing units in our community, but to researching and implementing new ways to create quality, low-cost housing more efficiently. If you are interested in exploring a collaboration to create or preserve affordable housing, please see contact information at right.

Current and past collaborations include:

  • East Side Neighborhood Revitalization Project - A neighborhood-based demonstration of the impact of educational reform and affordable housing production strategies. As part of this project, Wilder has acted as a leading partner in the establishment of Achievement Plus, a program that works to improve academic achievement by integrating education, family support and community services in full-service public schools. Wilder is also a leading partner in the Opportunity Housing Investment Fund, which uses “social investing” to create a revolving pool of funds for affording housing development and rehabilitation for families of children attending one of the Achievement Plus schools.

  • A partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and Saint Paul neighborhood community development corporations that began in 1996 and has increased affordable housing production in targeted areas.

  • Making Affordable Housing Affordable conference - A 2003 conference co-sponsored by Wilder to disseminate information on cost reduction strategies for home construction.
