Alexandra (Sandi) Pierce

Alexandra (Sandi) Pierce provides research and program evaluation on racial identity and race relations; health and social disparities; alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; and family and community violence.

She has worked as a researcher at the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center, the Minnesota Center for Survey Research, and the University of Minnesota.

Sandi has a B.A. in sociology from the University of California Santa Cruz, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Minnesota.

Recent projects

  • Evaluation of a culturally-based program to improve the math skills of American Indian children in grades 5 to 10, provided by the Greater Minneapolis Council of Church's Division of Indian Work and Anishinabe Academy
  • Evaluation of the Life Skills Parenting Program at the MN Indian Women's Resource Center, a new social service program provided in partnership with Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department
  • Evaluation of the Refugee Cash Assistance program for the MN Department of Human Services
  • Research and evaluation support to Northwest Hennepin Human Services Council for Tobacco-Free Youth, a project to assess and reduce tobacco marketing and influences on African immigrant, African American, and Southeast Asian immigrant youth funded by the MN Department of Health
  • Evaluation of the Enhanced Treatment Program, an intensive methamphetamine treatment program for women involved in Anoka County Corrections and/or Child Protection 
  • Evaluation of the Indian Child Welfare Law Center's Indian Child Custody Project, funded by the Administration on Native Americans to improve policy and practice for out-of-home placement of American Indian children in the state of Minnesota
